Chris was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 27, 1958, to Billy and Beth Smith and passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. Chris graduated from Southwood High School in 1976 in Shreveport, where he was class president and yearbook editor. He attended LSU Shreveport, University of Southern Indiana, and University of New Orleans. He was previously co-owner of Plants at Work. He worked in Sales and Service for 3 H Sign Systems and was owner of SIGNS Consulting. Chris was an avid runner and completed numerous marathons. He was active in the AA Fellowship for many years. He enjoyed landscaping and was a lover of people. Through Chris' illness, he affirmed his relationship with Jesus Christ and looked forward to going to his true forever home. This brought him great comfort and hope in what felt like a hopeless situation.

He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Smith; brother, Kevin Smith, and maternal and paternal grandparents. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Beth Holman Smith and husband, James McEachern; brother, Kerry Smith and wife, Lynne; sister, Amy Smith Gerth and husband, Rob, nieces and nephews, Mandy Gerth, Matthew Gerth, Kourtney Keim, Claira Shows and Katie Henson; step-sister, Lee Ann Wallbaum and step-brothers, Michael and Robert McEachern. Chris held Holden Simmonds and Cassidy Simmonds close to his heart, and he was honored to be their stepfather for many years.

Honoring Chris as pallbearers will be David Collier, Matthew Gerth, Cassidy Keim, Llewyn Jobe, Kenny Hurst and Greg Vanhoosier-Carey.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Lisa Marie Carey for the loving, wonderful care she provided for Chris during the last two months of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to 24 Hour Club, a transitional living facility for those in need of recovery, 4636 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204.
