Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Cedar RapidsChristopher Thomas Washburn, 40, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2025, at The University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. The family will host a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. on November 15, 2025, at the Cedar Rapids Eagles Club, 1735 11th Street NW, Cedar Rapids.
Chris was born on September 17, 1985, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lee Washburn and Kimberly Dykhuizen-Washburn. He studied culinary arts at Kirkwood Community College. Chris was a talented chef for the Cedar Rapids Country Club, Elmcrest Country Club as well as several other restaurants around Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed playing chess and being outdoors; especially going to Palisades Park with his niece, India. Above all else, Chris loved spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his daughter, Serenity Washburn and her mother, Sonny Smith; his father, Lee (Lisa) Washburn; his sister; Amanda (Jantzen) Washburn; and his niece, India Cratton.
Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Kimberly Washburn; brother, Michael Washburn; grandfathers, Donald Washburn and Dale Dykhuizen Sr.; uncle, Tod Washburn; and aunt, Angela Dykhuizen-Messerschmitt.
