Judith Anne Perkins

Judith Anne Perkins (Judy) passed away on September 24, 2024. She was born on October 7, 1942. Her parents were Larry and Marletta (Hilbert) Schultz and she had a younger brother, David. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1960.

In her early career, she worked as a legal secretary in Salt Lake City, where her superb organizational and clerical skills—including typing over 100 words per minute—served her well. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with Bart Perkins, whom she married on October 12, 1968.

Soon after, they welcomed two daughters, Andrea and then Joy. The family began their life together in Holladay, Utah, before moving to Fruit Heights, where Judy worked as school secretary at Kaysville Elementary. When they later moved to Sandy, Utah, she served as a school counselor's aide at Albion Middle School.

In her home life she was an exceptional seamstress and could sew, hem, or make almost anything you can imagine from wedding dresses to cabbage patch dolls. She also loved cooking, tole painting, and collecting miniatures and was a voracious reader. Her faith was important to her throughout her life—she was a charter member of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church.

Later in life after retirement, she and Bart very much enjoyed traveling and experiencing the world through trips and cruises to many locations such as Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, the Baltic countries, and she even got to see Russia and Cuba. She particularly loved her trips to see the Panama Canal and had a special place in her heart for Alaska.

Judy had a special talent for creating a warm and welcoming home environment for her family and visitors. She loved her family above all and spent many hours helping her daughters with anything she could, from so many fun shopping trips to scraping wallpaper from kitchen walls to acting as de facto babysitter for her beloved grandson. She also loved the animals that were lucky enough to be in her life, and birds. She could tell you about almost any bird that visited her feeder and loved to get out her bird book and learn about them.

She had an energy and smile that one could not forget. Even during the years she was afflicted by dementia she always had a smile and spunkiness that was infectious and always loved interacting with her family and friends. She will be missed deeply by all whose lives she touched.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Bart, as well as her two daughters Andrea Mitchell (Mike) and Joy Hekking (Josh), her grandson Ethan and her brother David Schultz.
