Cindy Gabel

Cindy Gabel, 61 of Montezuma passed away Thursday morning, March 5, 2026 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 pm Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will be held before the service at the funeral home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Following her service, she will be cremated and buried in the Masonic IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be made to Mick Gabel and will be split between the Hospice of Pella Comfort House along with other local organizations and may be sent to Holland-Coble Funeral Home; In Care of Cindy Gabel; P.O. Box 727; Montezuma, Iowa 50171. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Cindy Lea Gabel, the daughter of Kenton Dea Capper and Vera (Windman) Capper Rogers, was born on August 24, 1964 in Davenport, Iowa. She attended Montezuma Community School. She was married to Larry Joe Mateer Jr and to this union two children were born, Jessy and Brandy. They later divorced. She then met Mick Gabel in Ottumwa at a roller-skating rink and were married on October 15, 1994 at the Taintor United Methodist Church adding four children to her family, Melody, Joel, Erick and Amanda.

Cindy loved being a full-time mom, taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was very close to her siblings growing up. She enjoyed roller skating, making and selling jewelry and was a great cook; making a mean French Toast. She also enjoyed being outside, loved cats, her Jeep "GI JANE", her mustang and taking care of her health. She never missed a What Cheer Flea Market for over 27 years helping Mick set up and making sure everything was in perfect place. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa and most recently attended the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Mick Gabel of Montezuma; her children, Jessy (Staci Kruseman) Mateer of Oskaloosa and Brandy Mateer of Oskaloosa; Mick's children, Melody (Chris) Beaman of Eldridge, TX, Joel (Crystal) Gabel of San Marcos, TX, Erick (Jennifer) Gabel of Ottumwa and Amanda (Chris) Caya of Boscobel, WI; 11 grandchildren, Rylee Mateer, Brennan Mateer, Nova Plate, Remi Walker, Doug Collins, Justin (Chelsea) Collins, Colton Gabel, Addison Gabel, Owen Mitchell Gabel, James Baures III and Izzabell Caya; one great granddaughter, Madelyn Collins; three siblings, Drent Capper, Sherry (Mike) Nilson and Yanette (Dale) Graham; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lori Duggan.
