Claire Coombs (nee Gallagher) of Levittown, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025. She was 94 years old.
Born in Yardley, PA on March 4, 1931, she was the daughter of Frank and Ada (Smith) Gallagher. She deeply treasured her siblings, the late Miriam Duerr (Charles), Annette Eisenbrey (Horace), Audrey Neely (Bill), Mary Jane (Donald) and Frank Gallagher Jr. (Ann).
Claire was a graduate of St. Mary's Cathedral High School, Trenton, NJ, where she served as Senior Class President.
She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald H. Coombs. Married in England in 1952, they later became original homeowners in the Vermilion Hills section of Levittown, residing there for 70 years. Claire was the proud and loving mother of sons, Jeffrey, Gary (Michele), Douglas (Eileen) and daughter, Beth Henninger (James Kirkham). She considered her loving neighbor, Kim McGee, a second daughter.
As a founding member of St. Joseph the Worker parish in Fallsington, she was active in the Women's Sodality. After the closing of St. Joseph's parish, she became a parishioner at Queen of the Universe, Levittown. Claire was devoted to her Catholic faith and instilled those values in her family.
Known as "Honey", she was adored by her nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She delighted in being a part of their lives and celebrated their every accomplishment. Claire's greatest joy was being surrounded by family and she held dear her many life-long friendships. She leaves behind countless memories that will be forever cherished.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00a.m. to 10:50a.m. at the church. Words of remembrance will be shared at 10:50 a.m. She will then be laid to rest alongside her husband at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
The family would like to extend their immense gratitude to the staff at Pickering Manor in Newtown for the wonderful care extended to Claire during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Penn State Dance Marathon (THON.org) or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Our deepest condolences to all of you for your loss, and our prayers for comfort and warm memories to sustain you. Our "dear Miss Claire" as we lovingly referred to her as, was an incredible woman who impacted us in the best of ways - a quiet and welcoming presence on the porch while she was "sunbathing" and a frequent participant in our activities. We were touched by how faithful her family was to come visit each and every day, and Claire lit up with her sweet smile when she caught a glimpse of loved ones - she loved all of you so, and talked about you all with such devotion and with great pride in who you are as successful people following her example of humility and compassion and support. We will feel this tremendous loss in our Pickering Manor family for always. Her spot on the porch and remembering how much she enjoyed the warm sunshine, will linger long in our memories. The sweetest of souls, rest in peace, dear Miss Claire. You taught us well about aging with grace and kindness and optimism, and we love you for all you did for each of us.
