Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away with family by his side on November 25, 2022, in Clinton, Utah at 95 years old. He was born December 15, 1926, the son of Wilbur John and Lena May Brown the third of three children, on a little farm in West Sandwich Carroll, New Hampshire.
Bill married the love of his life Fay Johnston on August 9, 1969; their vows were solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 15, 1971. Together they lived a long and happy life traveling and vacationing with their family. Bill tenderly cared for Fay throughout their life and stayed by her constantly while she was ill. After Fay passed, Bill (85 years old) volunteered for hospice sitting and visiting with the elderly. Bill was an amazing care giver to many.
Bill served in the army from December 1947 to May 1950. He retired from the Defense Depot Ogden after 26 years of honorable service. He volunteered as firefighter for Sunset City, and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 139 serving in many capacities as well as the chaplain of his post. Bill was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints faithfully serving in many callings.
In his early years, Bill loved acting, singing, and being in plays. He was also quite a poet writing several poems to his wife. Bill loved fishing, camping, and traveling. In his later years, he enjoyed the art of coloring and did beautiful pictures that he shared with many. His most beloved hobby was spending time on his computer learning about the latest programs. Above all else, Bill loved spending time with family and friends.
He was blessed and survived by seven children: John Gilman, David Gilman, Billy Gilman, Shirley Pobst and Lynne Rodgers, and VerLean Thiros and Valerie Neville. Bill was also survived by one sister Lillian Elizabeth Jackson. When asked how many grandchildren and great grandchildren he had, Bill would say too many to count- a true statement. Bill truly left a legacy behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur Gilman and Lena Brown Gilman, his wife Fay Johnston Gilman, and his brother Dennis Wilbur Gilman.
