Clarence Mitchell Shelnut

Clarence Mitchell Shelnut, known by most as "Babe," of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away at the age of 79 on Friday, March 27, 2026.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Buford Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lester and Ola Elizabeth Shelnut; and his siblings, Walter Shelnut, William Shelnut, and Dorothy Jean Shelnut.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Pamela Shelnut; his siblings, Ethel Abernathy, Harold Shelnut, Herman Shelnut (Lola), Earl Shelnut (Sue), and Lawrence Shelnut (Annie); his children, April Owenby, Joshua Shelnut (Jen), Leah Cruz, and Matthew Shelnut (Lena); as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Babe was a hardworking man with a big personality who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was generous and deeply loved by his friends, family, and neighbors. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden.
