Clarence Milton West, Jr.
October 8, 1934 –January 26, 2024
Our Beloved father unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus, on January 26, 2024, after a brief and intense battle with Congestive Heart Failure. The burial was private, and he rests in Arlington cemetery in Pennsauken, NJ.
"Milt" as he was affectionately known, was born to Clarence Milton West, Sr., and Queene Victoria West (nee McMath) originally of NC, in 1934, in Camden, NJ. Milt was charming, kind, mischievous and delightfully witty with a great sense of humor bringing levity into every situation. He was a standout at Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1952, having been noted as "Wittiest" and "Best Dancer."
Milt ventured to UNC Chapel Hill in North Carolina for college until after 3 years, at the invitation of the military, he landed in Pirmasens, Germany in 1956 where he met his German bride, Otthilde R.M. Stauch. In his accounting career Milt was a longstanding part of the RCA family in Camden, NJ. He retired in 1996. In 1988 Milt completed his BS in Business Administration degree at RUTGERS University, Camden, while working full time at RCA.
Milt and Otti participated in the many events of the German-American Hansa Club, from which arose a love for Pinochle, and a Card Club was born. This eventually led to Milt's passion for the game of Bridge, through which he accumulated many "points" and even a trophy. The numerous events of the Hansa Club, the dances, luncheons, bus trips and picnics always found Milt as the Master of Ceremonies to "get the party started." He remained an active member of his Woodrow Wilson High School Reunion Committee until their last reunion which was their 65th, in 2017, and faithfully remained in contact with his classmates.
Summers from his High School days in Wildwood, NJ, at the Jersey shore, fostered his love for the beach and deep-sea fishing. Milt enjoyed dancing, card games, old movies, fishing, family reunions, westerns, rapturous conversation, the Eagles, Phillies, UNC Tarheels and reading mysteries, but nothing meant more to him than his family, his friends, and his country. He had a gift for making everything more fun, and in his company, everything was far more memorable.
Milt is pre-deceased by his father, Clarence Milton West, Sr, his mother Queene Victoria West (nee McMath), his sister Lucy Florence Simpson (nee West) and his wife Otthilde R.M. West (nee Stauch), and his nephew Everett Simpson III. Milt is survived by his elder daughter Christine A. Bartosz (nee West), her husband Robert W. Bartosz, and grandson Joshua Michael Bartosz, his younger daughter Nicole Marie Sempsey (nee West) her husband Joseph Sempsey, his niece Pamela Simpson Keesee and extended family in NC, NJ and TN.
There will be a Celebration of Life service for Milt on October 5th, 2024, to honor his memory to be held at Calvary Chapel Gloucester County (Calvary Plaza 5360 Rt. 42N Turnersville, NJ 08012) from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, with a Service beginning at 12 noon including military honors. Bring your memories and amusing anecdotes of Milt to share with us and cheer our hearts. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to Tunnel to Towers or the Veterans Administration as he deeply loved his country and had a special place in his heart for those who served.
"Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man the things which GOD has prepared for them that love Him." ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9
