Clarice Mathieu Reams, 83, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025. Clarice Reams is lovingly remembered by her four children: Jackie (Roger) Heinricy, Glenn (Katie) Reams, Sue (Butch, deceased) Byram, and Julie (Andre) Golubovic. Her grandchildren include Jessica (Nick) Olson, Nikki (Chris) Schueren, Alec (Bree) Reams, Adam (Riley) Reams, Matthew McGee (deceased), and Casey (Brittni) McGee. She was also blessed with a growing number of great-grandchildren: Micah and Olive Olson; Gaboric Vickmark; Sawyer and Colbee Reams; Henry Reams; and Raina and Ava McGee. She was preceded in death by her former spouse, Dr. Gary Reams, and her parents, Bryon and Jeanette (Peterson) Mathieu, and brother, Myron Mathieu. She is survived by her sister, Cleone Sundlie.
Raised near Lisbon and Elliott, North Dakota, Clarice brought her warmth and resilience to Dell Rapids, where she and Gary raised their four children. After building a life in Dell Rapids, Clarice and Gary amicably parted ways. Clarice found joy in a quieter lifestyle, cherishing her home and the natural beauty that surrounded her.
Clarice was a member of Dell Rapids Lutheran Church and a woman of unwavering faith. She also had a love for antiques and whimsical art, which gave her home comfort and charm. Clarice took pleasure in organizing her space, creating a warm, welcoming home for family visits. Family members fondly recall her doting on her grandchildren and being known for her legendary fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and gravy, a beloved staple at family gatherings. She also had a special bond with animals – especially dogs, whom she regularly walked through the parks and neighborhoods of Dell Rapids. Clarice’s simple joys reflected her down-to-earth nature. She was a caring mother and grandmother, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A private service will be held for the family. Clarice will be laid to rest at Dell Rapids Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared in the guestbook below.
