Clay Swain Obituary

Clay Swain passed away surrounded by love on June 15, 2025 after living with glioblastoma for over two years. Having a deep love for the joys of everyday, Clay lived his last two years the way he lived the rest of his life, enjoying the small moments that create the building blocks of a life well lived. We cherished every morning coffee trip, errand run, long walk with our beloved dog Sky, and chat on the porch that we got to spend together as a family. Even though it did not make his loss any easier, we had a beautiful long goodbye and we know our immense grief is a direct reflection of the love he brought to our lives. We will hold that love with us always.

Clay had a natural kindness and caring that was an innate part of his soul. He would always be the first to jump up and lend a hand in any scenario. We would often joke that if it was socially acceptable to hop behind the counter of any business, restaurant, or coffee shop to work a shift in a busy time, he would have happily done it. He was an expert in efficiency and an excellent organizer in any capacity. Whether that be the extensive spreadsheets he put together for work, printed labels in the pantry, or meticulously kept files and binders, he had a system for everything and nothing was ever done just "good enough."

Always eager to meet new people, his mother fondly recalls how he would station himself at the end of their driveway in small town Roosevelt and wave at everyone who drove by. With this people forward mentality and genuine friendliness, it was no wonder that he chose a career in sales and marketing. Spanning over 30 years, his career in the printed circuit board industry was a large source of pride for Clay and more importantly, created some of his most valued relationships. He had an unparalleled work ethic that was cultivated from a young age helping his family run a cattle ranch. In addition to a value for hard work, his childhood on the ranch instilled an appreciation for the landscape of the American West and he received a great sense of peace from hiking and skiing in the mountains in Park City, going on country drives throughout Idaho, taking in the beauty of the red rocks in Southern Utah, and walking along the beach in Southern California. These are the places that will always hold a piece of Clay and where we will go to think of him.

Clay met his wife Stacy at Utah State University when they were only 19 and 20 years old. The minute he saw her standing outside the library in her white cowboy boots was the beginning of a beautiful life spent together. Throughout his nearly 40-year marriage and 30 years as a father, Clay never let us down even once. Out of all the aspects of his life that got his time and care, he always showed the most dedication to his family. Our problem solver, comforter, and protector, we will always be a family of four and do our best to carry out his legacy.

Clay is survived by his wife and best friend, Stacy, and their two children, Samantha (Charlie) and James; his mother, Teddie, and father, Dan (Darcy); his siblings, Cory (Mandi), Stephanie (Jake), Steve (Lisa), Dianna (Chris), and Brian; his in-laws Sherry, Jill (Kip), Mike; nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless other family and friends who will carry him with them in their hearts. The Swain family would like to thank every healthcare professional who touched their lives at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, UCLA Health Bowyer Oncology Center, Alvord Brain Tumor Center, and Kline Galland Hospice. We feel immensely grateful for the skill, compassion, and sense of humor that made this journey bearable.

A memorial will be held for Clay at Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan, UT on Saturday, June 28th at 11 am. We invite all who loved Clay to join us in celebrating his life and impact.

We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of Clay. Please accept our deepest condolences. We can only imagine the depth of your grief after such a long and loving journey together. And we hold onto memories we shared together with your loving family. We saw first hand the lovely life you had built together.

Clay was an extraordinary person and a rock-kind, generous, and full of integrity. It´s clear he touched many lives with his warmth and dedication, and the love you shared was something truly special. We hope you can take comfort in the memories of all the small, beautiful moments you had together-the morning coffees, walks with Sky, the simple conversations that made up the rhythm of a meaningful life.

We send love and light to you all.

Stacy and kids,
Although Clay and I weren´t really close at USU, he was still an SAE brother, and someone I considered a friend. He always had a great attitude, and I don´t remember ever seeing him without his trademark smile. Very well liked for sure. I never heard anyone say a bad word about Clay. My heart goes out to you. Clay will certainly be missed, and remembered fondly by all who knew him. Sending you and your family love and hugs.

Stacy,

My Condolences to you and your family.

I recently heard about Clay's condition and am so sorry to hear of his passing. Clay and I worked together at TTM traveling often for corporate and customer meetings. I have many fond memories especially when he visited in FL supporting our customers and trade show events. The last time I saw Clay was at the Logan Country Club several years ago and believe you were also with him.
Clay was a gentle soul with a caring heart.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
