Clayton Miles Mathews, passed on June 4, 2025, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born on September 28, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie to Miles and Olga (Kokko) Mathews.
After graduation, Clayton married the love of his life Sharyn Joy (Muluck) Mathews. He graduated with honors from Michigan Tech as an Electrical Engineer. He went to work for Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, WI. He went on to receive his doctorate degree. Clayton played hockey as a goalie for many years. He enjoyed coaching his grandson's hockey team and was proud to be able to acquire ownership in the New York Rangers. He was an avid outdoorsman. Clayton was proud to have taught for 53 years at Albat Lineman School.
Clayton was a member of the Elks Lodge #552 and Rolls Royce Owners Club.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Sharyn; daughter, Kelly Ann Mathews of Traverse City, Michigan; eight-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister, Mae Lydia McDowell of New York; sister-in-law, Margaret Mathews of Sault Ste. Marie; nephews, Dennis (Carol), Michael (Cindy), Steven (Dionne), Joel (Tina) Mesnard; nephew, Scott McDowell and niece, Cynthia McDowell; and their families; dear friend, Katina Ferrell.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Olga Mathews; brother, Charles Matthew; father and mother-in-law, Michael and Sarah (Hart) Muluck; brother-in-law, Robert McDowell; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Paula (Muluck) Mesnard.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Clayton's final resting place, Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery.
Family Life Funeral Homes Sault Ste Marie assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be left to the family at www.familylifefh.com.
