Clementine Lewis passed away on October 11, 2025, at Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at West Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at New Beginnings Church of God, burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (New Section)

Clementine Lewis was born December 7, 1927 to Joe and Edna White in Clarksville, Texas. After the passing of her mother, Clementine, subsequently moved to Carlsbad, NM where she was raised by her uncle, Reverend Calvin Dixon and his wife. She learned to work hard and under the guidance of these parental figures she became an early believer in Christ and started serving in church during her childhood. After graduation from Carver School, she worked as a domestic worker and met Rev. Columbus Lewis. They were married on January 21, 1951. She served faithfully side by side with her husband as they both grew in the church, in their faith and their walk with God. She became the First Lady of Saints Temple COGIC in Carlsbad NM, Mt. Zion COGIC in Carlsbad NM and Pentecostal Temple COGIC in Hobbs, NM, where she served diligently. At any given time, you could find her cleaning up the church, in the kitchen cooking, or having practice with the youth for an upcoming play or speech. She was a "HOST" to everyone including National and State Bishops, Pastors, Ministers, Missionaries, Evangelists and State Choirs. Anybody traveling would always have a place to stay and a hot meal. She was also a foster parent and hosted many children in need along with helping to raise nieces and nephews. Clementine would do whatever was asked of her to be supportive of God, The Church, and her husband. After her husband retired from Pentecostal Temple in 2006, she again became a member of Mt. Zion COGIC, and at the time of her passing, she was the Mother of the Church. Though soft spoken, Clementine supported the Civil Rights Movement, she was a member of the MLK Foundation, the NAACP, and completed several marches for equal rights throughout her life. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Clementine is preceded in death by her Husband Supt. Columbus Lewis, parents, Joe and Edna White; one brother, Vivian White; and four sisters; Constance, Verdell, Rena and Edna. Clementine is survived by her daughters, Celestine Lewis Perry of Ft. Worth, Tx, Beatrice Lewis Kelly, of Cincinnati, OH, and Ronnie Lewis and wife Rhea of Norwich, Connecticut, and a host of extended family and friends.
