Clifford Hower Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by William H. Kresge Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 11, 2026.
Clifford E. Hower, 85, of Effort, PA, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 26, 1940, in Erie, PA, he grew up in Oil City and graduated from Oil City High School. He was the son of Merle Hower and Isabelle (Alabaugh) Cyphert, and stepfather, John Cyphert. His early years helped shape the resilience and independence that defined him throughout his life.

Cliff proudly served in the United States Air Force before beginning a 29-year career with ACME Markets as a meat cutter and manager. After retiring, he continued his craft at Herfurth Brothers and ShopRite in Brodheadsville, PA.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Corle and Margaret Stiller, and his brother, Edward Hower. Cliff is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann "Bobbi" (Liples) Hower; his son, Clifford M. Hower and his wife Jill; his daughter, Sherri Ann Hower Meitzler; and his grandson, Andrew M. Meitzler. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Cliff found peace in the woods and joy on the water. He especially loved spending time with his family and cheering on his grandson from the baseball sidelines. Most of all, he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Cliff will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Memorial services will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Brett Jenkins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please make online gifts in memory of Clifford E. Hower to the Dementia Society of America at www.DementiaSociety.org/donate.

Cliff will be remembered for his loyalty, gentle spirit, warm smile, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed.
