Cody Bear Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tate Mortuary on Jul. 14, 2023.
Cody Matt Bear, born to the world on the 15th of January 1987, in Salt Lake City, Utah, was a beacon of light to those who knew him. He was a charismatic man, whose infectious laughter could brighten the gloomiest of days. Smart and brimming with an insatiable curiosity, Cody was an avid reader, delving into the worlds of anime, folk tales, crime, and sci-fi with a fervor that was nothing short of inspiring. He was also a passionate gamer, finding joy in the camaraderie and shared experience with friends online. A proud member of the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indian Tribe, Cody was a testament to the tribe's values of resilience and unity.
Cody was a generous soul, always willing to lend a hand or offer a comforting word to those in need. As a dedicated maintenance worker for the government, he was a testament to hard work and commitment. His intelligence and dedication earned him recognition in his high school years, graduating in the top percent of his class at Tooele High School and being ranked in the top percent of Who's Who in America. He was a loving son, a caring brother, and a doting uncle, cherishing his family deeply. He was a resident of Skull Valley, Utah, having previously lived in Grantsville, and he had a profound love for his roots.
Raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cody's life was a reflection of the scripture in Matthew 5:16: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Cody Bear, though not heavily involved in religious practices, lived a life that showcased his love for others, a tenet central to his faith. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lawrence Bear, and his grandmother, Sylvia Lohr. He is survived and dearly missed by his father, Matt Bear; his mother, Cynthia Hussein; his brothers, Zachary and Tyrell Bear; his uncles, Tad Bear and Jonathan Bear; his aunts, Lori Bear, Mignon Bear, and Kristen Bear; his grandmother, Eve Bear; his nephews, Tristan Bravo and Jassiel Bear; and his grandfather, Jud Kidwell.
Cody's life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and the strength of family bonds. His spirit and memory will continue to live on in all those whose lives he touched. We invite all who knew Cody to share their memories and photos on his memorial page, to celebrate the life of this remarkable man.

Cody was my first friend and my BEST friend when I moved to Tooele from Layton in 2003, and even my first roommate when I moved out after graduating from Tooele High school. He brought me into his circle of friends and taught me so much, always sharing laughs when we were together. I remember all the sleep overs, DDR tournaments, and night-after-night of videos games together. Cody and I had good times and hard times together, but I will always remember him fondly.

My heart goes out to Cody's family; my condolences.
He will be missed dearly, by so many of the lives he touched.
