Cody Ray Surprise

Sgt. Cody Ray Surprise, age 21, passed away unexpectedly on May 21st, 2022. He was born in Poway, CA on July 21st, 2000. Cody was a graduate of the Lyndon Institute and was attending UVM studying Exercise Science. He was also enlisted as an Infantryman in the Vermont National Guard. Not a fan of idle time, Cody belonged to many groups, clubs and organizations. He was most notably a member of Pi Kappa Phi - Lambda Iota fraternity as well as a Mason at Patriot Lodge 33.
Cody was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, climbing, skiing, caving and many other activities. He had no fear and was guided by his sense of adventure. His dog Arya was often his partner in these adventures. He had an infectious laugh and found joy in bringing joy to others. If there were shenanigans to be had, Cody was likely at the helm. He enjoyed spending some downtime at the OP Bar in Burlington, hanging out with good friends.
Cody is survived by his parents, siblings and a very large and loving family and friends.
Services are in the care of the LaVigne Funeral Home, who will be hosting calling hours at 132 Main Street in Winooski, VT on Sunday, May 29th from 1:00pm-3:00pm. A service will follow at the funeral home at 3:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
