Colin Patrick Flaherty, 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 with his daughter, brother and close friend by his side after he fought strongly against his cancer.
Colin was born in Wilmington, DE on June 25, 1955, son of the late John H. and Frances (Klespis) Flaherty. He graduated from Christ our King Grade School, Salesianum High School and attended the University of Delaware and the University of California San Diego.
Colin will be lovingly remembered by his children, David Flaherty and Caitlin Woelfel (Kurt), his siblings John Dennis Flaherty; Karen A. Flaherty and David M. Flaherty (Jayne); his nephews, Kevin G. Flaherty and his wife, Kim; Christian M. Flaherty and his wife, Marisa; Michael V. Flaherty and his wife, Nicole; and his grandchildren Brianna, Jake and Dylan; and nieces and nephews, Devan, Alexis, Sean, Cameron, Giancarlo, Michael, Jack and Julia.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Clare Flaherty; and his brother-in- law, Ed McCarthy (Darlene and Brendan) and his ex-wife Victoria Van Deerlin. Colin was predeceased by his brother, Kevin, who passed away while serving our country in Vietnam; and his sister Patricia.
Colin was a prolific writer on politics, criminal justice, life in general as well as a juggler. In 1974 he worked for 6 months on the James E. Straits show and then moved to San Diego where he launched a lifelong career as a writer and political consultancy.
Colin's family is particularly thankful for the generosity and kindness shown by his dear friends from the Breck's Mill Gang; Mark, Mike the Beast, Rev. Bacon, Jeff, Irish Mike, Mike Mc, Glenn, Dallas, The Godfather, Big Willie and Terry as well as the care and kindness of Compassionate Care Hospice and his dedicated friend and nurse, Deirdre, who was with Colin at the end. Colin was, throughout his life, a man of enormous energy, talent and large intentions.
Due to Covid, a public service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Colin to Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 15th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Another year without you Colin. You are gone but definitely not forgotten. Missing you is not easy. Because you were that good at pointing out all the Argy Bargy! With love and Friendship! Breks Mills in excile isn´t the same when you can´t tell us the stories we all loved so much.

I had numerous correspondence with Colin, all with grace, passion and Honesty....
He was a staunch American. But he knew Eire loved him.

May the road rise up to meet him.
May the wind be always at his back.
May the sun shine warm upon his face;
the rains fall soft upon his fields and until we meet again,
May God hold Colin in the palm of His hand.

Wow I can't believe it! I watched Colin on YouTube religiously until he changed sites. I had forgotten his name (71 yrs ) and it finally came to me. I was all excited . I enjoyed every video of his ,he wasn't afraid to speak his mind which is a rare trait now a days. There won't be another to take his place. My condolences to the family. He was one of a kind. !!

Loved this man's boldness. He had one of the best podcasts exposing shocking truths about ills in society that most people were nervous to speak about. As someone who also lost his father to cancer, I'm sorry to his family for enduring such thing. May he be in the good Lord's rest.

Colin shined a bright light on a very taboo topic which needed and still needs the light of day. He will always be remembered as a champion of truth and a journalistic honey badger that would never back down..RIP.

I worked with Colin for years and we were very close friends, even though he moved back home to Delaware from San Diego, which is where I worked with him. Colin and I did amazing things in politics, writing and even in pro football. Every single case we took on was interesting and consequential and I have to say that we did not once fail.

When Colin told me he wasn´t going to make it. I was devastated. Inconsolable, really. Yet, here I am.

He was an amazing man and the world is going to be a lot different without him. I will miss our hours long telephone calls. I swear, we could have solved all the problems in the world, given a little bit more time. At least it seemed like we could.

I´m honored to have known and to have worked with him. I´m a writer who has been published over 1,000 times and I would not have been published even once were it not for Colin. He showed me the ropes and he encouraged me all along the way.

One of my favorite things to do with Colin was going to parties with movers and shakers. Colin knew all the movers and shakers. Anyway, when we´d get there, he´d say, "work the room, Nancy, work the room." I always laugh about that because that was the one thing Colin couldn´t do. He couldn´t work the room. But I could and he knew it. I suppose that´s why he took me to all those parties.

Colin used to say, " I´m the best writer you´ve never heard of" and it didn´t take me long to figure out why he said that because I soon became the second best writer nobody had ever heard of. We did a lot of ghost writing.

I´ve done a lot of things in my life, but I will always look back on the work I did with Colin with fondness and pride and that´s because the work was fun and we got the results we were paid to get.

Don´t let that folksy kind of tone Colin had fool you. He was nothing short of brilliant. I shall miss him for the rest of my days.
