Collette Thomas Cowan, 74, passed away on April 8, 2024, in Cedar City, Utah, from a sudden illness. Collette was born August 24, 1949, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Carol and Calvin Thomas. She was the oldest of 6 children. Collette spent the first few years of her life in Palmyra, Utah before her family moved to Spanish Fork. Collette graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1967. Collette attended CSU (now Southern Utah University) where she met the love of her life, Randy Ray Cowan. They were married on March 7, 1969, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
While attending CSU, Collette enjoyed dancing and being part of the Thunderettes dance team. After marriage, she was employed by the Iron County School District at North Elementary, Cedar High School and retired from Canyon View High School as a beloved office manager. She loved those she worked with.
Collette, along with Randy, loved raising their four children in Cedar City. She taught them to love the gospel and to serve others. Collette was constantly there supporting her children in whatever they did. She never missed a game, dance recital, baptism, ordination, or wedding. Her children and grandchildren could always count on her being there for them. Collette lived a life of charity and service. She was always looking for ways to love and serve others, including her family and ward members.
Collette loved to shop with her sisters and her daughters. She seemed to have a new purse for every season. Her greatest joy in life was time with family. Her eyes would light up whenever she was around them. She regularly sent texts and notes of encouragement to her children and grandchildren. She loved holidays and making them special for her family. Holidays and family gatherings won't be the same without her.
Collette was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings, including Primary President, Relief Society President, Ward and Stake Young Women's Presidencies, YSA Stake Relief Society President and as a temple worker. She shared her unwavering testimony through her light and her constant example.
Collette is survived by her husband of 55 years, Randy; her sons Colby (Kristin) and Cameron (Jami); her daughters Lindsay Esplin (Nate) and Alayna Marriott (Tim); 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons with one great-grandson on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Tamara Davis (Richard); Lane (Annette); Blake (Deb); Shannon White (Stuart); and Jan Southwick (Channing). She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Cedar City 4th Ward LDS Church Building (500 W. 400 N., Cedar City, UT).
