Malia Kalei'okalani (meaning our gift from heaven) Vasi, our beloved daughter and sister returned to her Heavenly Father on Aug 18, 2024, after a sudden illness. Her loss is completely unexpected, and her family is devastated.
Malia was born on May 24, 2001 in
Cedar City, Utah to Michele McAllister Vasi and Afa Vasi. From the moment she was born, she filled our house with joy and light. She had two big brothers who loved and doted on her and parents who were excited to have a baby girl to spoil. Three years later, Liliani joined us and completed our family. Malia loved to mother her, Lili didn't always love it as much.
Growing up Malia loved gymnastics and being a princess. That's when she developed her love for clothes and jewelry. She is always pushing boundaries and letting her unique style shine through. She shared her creativity through her love of painting, drawing, journaling and making her own jewelry. She finds beauty in all things.
Malia attended and graduated from Canyon View High School. Malia was very athletic and played many sports during her time there. Volleyball, basketball and softball, but volleyball was her passion. She was a great leader and friend on and off the court. Malia started working at Brad's Food Hut during high school and has worked on and off there ever since. She was able to associate with many members of the community and shared her love for life with everyone she came in contact with. She was known for her compliments and sweet messages on the lid of your drink. She loved her Brad's family.
Malia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was our wild child with a heart of gold. She embodied the meaning of Christlike love. She was an example to so many of kindness, goodness, and treating others with compassion. Complimenting people was her specialty. She was here to teach us all how to treat each other and make this world a better place.
Malia is pure sunshine and happiness. Her smile was contagious and lit up a room. She lived big. She always had big plans, big dreams, and a big heart. She made every second count. She spent many weekends and holidays traveling to Lake Powell, the Coral Pink Sand Dunes, and the family's second home of Kanab. Her love for her extended family and spending time together continuing traditions has always been important. Malia lived and worked in Hawaii for several months. Malia explored the islands of Hawaii and gained many experiences, friends and memories along the way. She fully adopted and lived the spirit of Aloha. She recently fell hard and fast for the boy she wanted to marry and they had a beautiful future ahead of them.
Malia is survived by her parents Afa and Michele Vasi, of
Cedar City, UT., brothers Tevan (Carly) Vasi of
Cedar City, UT., Jackson (Taylor) Vasi of Washington, UT., and sister Liliani Vasi, of the Scotland/Ireland Mission. Along with many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her.
Funeral services will be held on August 24th at 11am at the Canyon View Stake Center (1985 North Main Street,
Cedar City, UT). Viewings will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6-8 pm and on Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 9:30-10:30 am.
