Connie Lou (Sorensen) Baucom, 72, of McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor and remember her.

Connie was born on April 22, 1953, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Charles D. Sorensen and Gertrude M. (Ladegard) Sorensen.

She graduated from McAlester High School and pursued further education through college coursework before beginning her professional journey.

Throughout her career, Connie served with distinction at the McAlester News-Capital and dedicated 25 years to public service as a supervisor with the State of Oklahoma's unemployment services. Following her retirement, she continued her commitment to community by working for the City of McAlester. Her strong work ethic and quiet dedication left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her.

Connie found peace and joy in the comforts of home. She especially enjoyed tending to her yard, taking pride in her outdoor spaces, and appreciating the tranquility they offered.

She is survived by her daughter, Staci Pouncil, and her children of McAlester; her son, Bill Taylor and his children of Lubbock, Texas; her brother, Chuck Sorensen of Lubbock, Texas; sisters, Charlene Olson of Florida and Cindy Sadler of McAlester; along with numerous extended family members and close friends who will remember her with love.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Gertrude Sorensen.

Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will be lovingly carried on by all who knew her.
