Connie Graham, 78, of Nora Springs (formerly Rockford), passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
A prayer service for Connie will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Rockford with Pastor Chan Kim officiating.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church prior to the prayer service.
Connie Jo (Hewitt) Graham, the daughter of Elmer, Sr. and Betty (Lewis) Hewitt, was born October 9, 1946. She received her education in Nora Springs and married Gary John Graham at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in Rockford and were blessed with two sons: Bill and Bob.
Connie worked at the Rockford School as a cook for many years. During the summer months she helped maintain Riverside Cemetery in Rockford along with cleaning the Methodist Church, City Hall, the parks around Rockford and the Nora Springs Motel. Connie finished her working career with the Globe Gazette at the printing press. She actually knew how to do many of the jobs at the Globe, but that was her main position.
Connie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockford most of her life and was a Scout Leader for her boys when they were active in the Cub Scouts. Connie enjoyed working on crafts, taking her sons hunting and fishing, listening to Elvis Presley as loudly as possible and caring for her loving pets (both cats and dogs).
Family was very important to Connie. Her grandfather taught her how to fix almost anything, and she was more than willing to pass this trait on to her sons. She was always ready to help anyone in need, and she had a very forgiving heart. Connie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Living family members include her son, Bob (Cindy) Graham of Rockford; grandchildren: Shawn Graham, Lacey McLaughlin, Zach Graham (Alyssa Myers), Kaleb (Zoey) Graham and Kristina Graham; great-grandchildren: Oliver, Clark, Hunter, Lily, Jernie, Joel, Skyler and Madison; sister, Lola Mills of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Rita Hewitt of Mason City; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; son, Bill; four brothers: Elmer Hewitt, Jr., Jerry Hewitt, Gene Lewis and Bill Burgess; sister, Joyce Shaw; niece, Tracy Lynne Hewitt; and two nephews: Tom Hewitt and Scott Hewitt.
