Connie Pickering, 71, of Carthage passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, while at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. located at 500 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619. A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at 3:00 pm in the Lundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. A burial will take place in the spring at Sanford Corners Cemetery, to be announced at a later date.
Connie was born on January 14, 1953, to the late Clair and Virginia (Decker) Cook. She graduated in 1971 from Carthage Central School. Connie worked a variety of jobs, including at Lally's Manufacturing in Herrings, NY, at the Great Bend Elementary School, at the Carthage Nursing Home, and at the Community Action Planning Council of Carthage. She married Clarence Pickering Jr. on March 2, 1979.
Connie is survived by her long-time partner and companion, Richard Pickett; a son Terry (Rachel) Countryman of Carthage; a daughter Kristina and Neil O’Dell of Carthage, a stepson, Robert Pickering; three grandchildren, Ginny Faunce and her partner Austin Reising of Oswego, Ryan Countryman of Utica, and Megan Countryman of Weedsport; her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Brandon Countryman; her sisters, Janice (Robert) Piatt, JoAnn Houston, Tammy (Keith) Widrick, and Gina (Thomas) Powell; her brothers, John (Brenda) Cook, Terry (Shirley) Cook, and Randy Cook; a sister-in-law Dorothy Cook; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Connie is predeceased by her husband, Clarence “Sonny” Pickering; a sister, Cindy (Charles) Piddock; brothers Michael Cook and Gary (Nancy) Cook; and a brother-in-law, William R. Houston.
Connie was very active in her day-to-day life and always found a way to keep busy. She enjoyed ceramic painting and going bowling. She loved to travel, especially with her family and friends. She found a great joy in watching her grandchildren compete in ice skating and horseback riding. Connie loved to put together her puzzles, and finished her last puzzle on the day that she passed.
