Constance "Connie" DeVico, 88, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains with her loving family by her side. Connie was born and lived in Furci Siculo, a province in Messina, Sicily until she emigrated to America during her high school years. She lived in Westfield with her father, where she attended the local high school. There she met friends who later became part of her family. Dedicated to staying close to family and friends, she lived in Scotch Plains, Westfield, and Fanwood for most of her adult years.
She was an avid gardener, enjoyed the beach, and loved to go on her walks. She will be remembered for her dedication to family, friends, and to the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Known to many as "Ms. Connie," she worked as a receptionist at the Grand Street YMCA Childcare Facility for numerous years. Loved by parents and children alike, she would often be heard saying "Ciao Bella" to the kids as they entered each morning.
Mostly, Connie loved spending time with her family. She could find any excuse to bring everyone together for dinner. Italian family style, of course. She was a figure of stability, of unconditional love, and of strength. She taught her family to value community, friends and especially their bonds with one another.
Surviving her are her sons Russell DeVico (and his wife, Leslie) and Joseph DeVico (and his wife, Susan); her daughters, Marie Mormelo (and her husband, Walter) and Tina DeVico Price; eight grandchildren Nick, Rachel (and her husband, Chris), Joey (and his wife, Tiffany), Ryan, Eric, Nicole, Faith, and Grace; and five great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Nicki, Ethan, Lucas, and Carter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louis, who died in 2014.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Friday, February 2nd from 3 PM to 7 PM. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bartholmew the Apostle RC Church in Scotch Plains on Saturday at 10:30 AM. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital.
