Cora T. Del Vecchio

December 19, 2025

Cora T. Del Vecchio, a lifelong resident of North Plainfield, passed away suddenly on Friday morning, December 19, 2025, at her home. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her gentle spirit, and the simple joys that brought her happiness throughout her life.

Cora was born in North Plainfield to the late Salvi and Carmella (Cornacchione) Troiano and was raised in the community she would call home for nearly her entire life. Aside from a brief period living in Plainfield, North Plainfield remained the center of her world, where she raised her family and formed lifelong friendships. She was a proud graduate of North Plainfield High School and remained closely connected to the community long after her graduation.

Following high school, Cora attended technical school, where she studied data processing and punch-card systems, an early form of computer technology at the time. She later put those skills to use working for Allstate Insurance, where she was employed shortly after her marriage. Once she began raising her family, Cora dedicated herself fully to her role as a homemaker, a responsibility she embraced with love and pride.

Later in life, after her children were grown, Cora returned to the workforce and became a valued teacher's assistant at the Sundance School in North Plainfield, a well-known preschool and elementary school in the community. She worked there with care and kindness until her retirement.

Cora was a longtime and devoted member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield and was also formerly a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, also in North Plainfield. Her faith remained an important part of her life.

Family was always at the heart of everything Cora did. She took great joy in caring for her children and, later, her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was known as an excellent cook and baker, and her family fondly remembers the delicious meals she lovingly prepared over the years.

Cora found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved shopping, especially trips to the Dollar Store and the Christmas Tree Shops. She enjoyed reading her favorite magazines, particularly First and Woman's Day, and had a fondness for desserts - pudding and Jell-O being among her favorites. She also cherished her daily cup of coffee, poured first thing in the morning and made to last throughout the day.

A devoted television watcher, Cora could often be found enjoying Lifetime movies and shows. She had a lifelong love for I Love Lucy, delighting in watching the classic reruns and collecting I Love Lucy memorabilia, especially the beloved dolls. This joy was something her family will always remember with a smile.

Cora was predeceased by her parents, Salvi and Carmella (Cornacchione) Troiano; her sons, Charles Del Vecchio, Jr. and Joseph M. Del Vecchio Sr.; and her sister, Virginia.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Charles Del Vecchio, Sr. Cora and Charles were married in 1962 and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary together. She is also survived by her loving children, Jennifer Del Vecchio and Nicole Del Vecchio DelMonte and her husband Kevin; her daughter-in-law, Christine Del Vecchio; her cherished grandchildren, Charles III, Christopher, Lisette, Breanna (Mark), Steven, Natalie, Joseph Jr., Victoria, Nicholas and Hailey.; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Layla.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Boulevard, Watchung, New Jersey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, North Plainfield, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

Cora will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
