Cora Mae Newton, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Swartz, Louisiana, on November 7, 1945, Cora lived a life marked by determination, service, and unconditional love. A proud graduate of Ouachita Parish High School, Cora went on to become the first in her family to earn a college degree, achieving major milestones with her degree in Credit Management. Her professional career was distinguished and influential, defined by excellence and leadership in her field. Cora's talent was unmatched - particularly her legendary ability with a ten-key calculator and her gift for balancing even the most complex banking ledgers. There wasn't a penny, she couldn't find. Over the years, she rose to become a respected leader, serving as President of the Women in Construction of Texarkana, Texas, and later as President of the Women in Credit Management organization in Houston, Texas. Her accomplishments were many, and her work ethic was an inspiration to all who knew her. But more than any title or accolade, Cora treasured her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the heart of her family and its greatest champion. For 48 years, she shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, Kenneth Newton. She poured her energy, compassion, and care into every moment with her husband, children and grandchildren. Tirelessly devoted, she would go out of her way to help anyone in need - her heart was as generous as it was steadfast. She is survived by her incredibly dedicated husband, Kenneth Newton; daughter Debra Nugent; son Michael Newton and his wife Kendra; son Stephen Newton and his husband Austin ; granddaughters Tiphany Nugent-Elder and her husband Gary, Madison, Magdeliene, and Deja Newton; grandsons Grayson and Hudson Newton; and great-grandsons Lewis and Haydon Powe. Cora's legacy of love, leadership, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. A service to honor and celebrate Cora's life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas, with interment to follow.
