Cory Petersen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lyndahl Funeral Home on Feb. 14, 2022.
Cory Lee Petersen, 34, Green Bay died unexpectedly on Friday, February 11, 2022, as a result of an automobile accident.
Cory was born on July 29, 1987, in Chilton to Brian and Linda (Boettcher) Petersen. He was a graduate of Brillion High School and furthered his education with UW-Platteville, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. On January 2, 2016, he married Kelsie Holtzheimer. Cory was a mechanical engineer for Ariens company, but enjoyed working in the prototype shop the most.
Cory was an incredibly humble, kind-hearted, and loving person. He was always willing to invest his time in the people he cared about. He was a wonderful listener and a deeply devoted friend. Cory always knew how to slip in a joke at the perfect time; his comedic timing was the stuff of legend. Cory loved to travel! His spirit of adventure is something his friends and family plan to carry on with them. His recent trips to Iceland (2020 & 2021) with Kelsie and their friends Tony and Whitney, were some of the true highlights of his life. Going up north to "the cottage" was always something he looked forward to. Cory also loved to go frisbee golfing with his friends Tony, Mike, and Bryan. His favorite days at work were when his work buddies would go to Horn Park with him at lunchtime and throw some disks, even when the lake ate them. Cory also had a passion for cars. He treasured his time at Road America with his friends, and most especially with his uncle, Paul. Cory shared a deep love of music with his wife. He was a third-generation trombonist following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Mary, and his father, Brian. He held a very special affection for the music of John Williams, his absolute favorites were the soundtracks for Jurassic Park and the Star Wars Trilogy. Cory was always ready to pour an Old Fashioned for a friend and play a hand of cribbage or two. Cory was very possibly the world's best brother, and he would often call and chat with Katie on his way to and from work. His presence in life may have been quiet, but for his loved ones, his silence will be deafening.
Cory is survived by his wife: Kelsie; his mom: Linda (fiancé Tim Veith) Petersen; sister: Katie Petersen; parents-in-law: Dave (Marsha) Holtzheimer; brother-in-law: Tyler (Dana) Holtzheimer; Tim's kids: Danielle (Kevin) Kulibert, Kalyn (Jason) Plate, and Devin Veith; grandpa: Elton Petersen; grandparents-in-law: Mary Jane Erikson and Suzanne Holtzheimer; godparents: Ken and Sue Petersen; and godchild: Tucker Maertz. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Cory was preceded in death by his dad: Brian Petersen; grandparents: Mary Petersen, Elroy and Virginia Boettcher; grandparents-in-law: David Erikson and Raymond Holtzheimer; mother-in-law: Waunda Holtzheimer; and cousin: Ashley Boettcher.
A funeral service to celebrate Cory's life will be held at 5:00 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Ave., with Pastor Scott Eastman officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Friday, February 18, 2022, from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm. All are encouraged to dress casually, or even wear something to represent what Cory enjoyed (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, racing, music, bourbon). There will be no meal to follow.
Cory's family feels this poem written by Marsha Holtzheimer (Cory's Mother-In-Law) is a perfect tribute.
One Friday morning, our lives came to a standstill
A life was tragically taken, against our human will.
A gentle giant, so humble and kind,
Another like him seems impossible to find.
Thoughtful to his core and generous beyond measure.
A friendship from him was one to call a treasure.
"Old fashioned?" he'd ask if you walked through his door.
If you stayed around long enough, he'd pour you one more.
His wife was his princess, that he lavished with love.
His family held high importance to which others spoke of.
Quirky and interesting - he was so intelligent,
But being intimidating to others was surely not his bent.
If you knew him, you liked him, it was impossible not to.
If you didn't know him, you missed out - I promise it's true.
Cory you will be missed more than you could ever possibly know.
Our hearts will ache forever for the one Friday morning that you had to go.
Forever Missed and Forever Loved
