It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Courtland "Corky" Earl Bertsch, who left us on October 26, 2025, at his home in West Harrison, Indiana, surrounded by his beloved family. Corky was born on August 16, 1948, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Robert W. Jr. and Carrie (nee Haskell) Bertsch.
Corky proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from July 19, 1967, to July 18, 1969, including nearly a year of overseas service. After his military service, he dedicated himself to a career as a security guard with Champion Paper, always ensuring that those around him felt safe and looked after. Outside of work, Corky cherished the simple joys of life-fishing, mowing the grass, tending to his garden, and relaxing on his front porch to watch the sunset. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his passion for helping others and his love of animals, values he instilled deeply in his children.
Corky was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Lora, his loving parents, Robert and Carrie, and his siblings Howard Bertsch, Robert W. Bertsch III, Robert Hosier, and David Bertsch, along with his son-in-law, Eric Hoffman.
Leaving behind a legacy filled with love and service, Corky is survived by his loving children, Gretchen (Timothy) Irvin, Eva Dian Hoffman, and James (Tamla) Bertsch, along with his treasured grandchildren, Nina and Gracy Irvin, Jacob (Dana) Hoffman, Chloe (Connor Bachinski) Hoffman, and Nathaniel Couch; dear siblings: Mary Lou Smith, Eddie Haskel, William Hosier, Gorden Bertsch and Charles Hosier. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear neighbors who felt like family.
A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on October 28, 2025, at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in West Harrison, Indiana. Military honors provided by the US Army and the Harrison Honor Guard will conclude the services.
In this time of sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that Corky's kindness and warmth will continue to inspire all of us who were fortunate enough to have known him.
