Born to Don and Donna Wise on July 18,1954, Covey Lawson Wise II spent his initial years of life in and around Wichita, KS, attending and graduating from Belle Plaine High School. Covey enlisted in active US military service as a Naval Airman from July 1972-1975. He then served on the USS Forestal as an E-3 Ordinance Mechanic for three years on tour throughout the Mediterranean.
Covey met the woman who would later be his wife, Nancy Wise, in August 1975 at a local Christian Church in Wichita, KS. They were married on July 31, 1976. Covey and Nancy were happily married for almost 49 years.
Music was always a primary part of Covey's life. As part of a nationally renowned and award-winning family bluegrass band named The Outpost Family Band, Covey and Nancy traveled the eastern United States with numerous family members for over 12 years. A prolific songwriter, Covey won national and international awards for songwriting and banjo playing. The band would go on to record seven albums and Covey would later record two solo albums.
In 1987, Covey and Nancy moved the family to Central Florida. Shortly after moving, Covey founded his own landscape company, building it into a successful business that lasted 35 years until he retired. Covey and Nancy began attending West Orange Christian Church where he faithfully served as a deacon and an elder in the Lord's church. He continued to serve as an elder in multiple Christian Churches and assisted in planting new churches for years to come. At Kissimmee Christian Church, Covey and Nancy led a recovery ministry for eight years and served as house parents for a foster home housing teenage boys. They have been active members of Monroeville Christian Church since 2019. Covey was an avid trout fisherman and loved fishing with his family.
Covey is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Donna Wise; granddaughter, Kara Wise; and nephew, Jason Cranmer. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wise; sons, Covey (Katie) Wise and Clint (Sherri) Wise; and ten grandchildren, Cody (Hannah) Wise, Wyatt (Gracie) Wise, Austin Wise, Ethan Wise, Josiah Wise, Makenzie Wise, Nathan Wise, Leia Wise, Dax Wise, and Hunter Wise; sisters, Cindy (Kenny) Cranmer, Callie (Barry) Hus, Cammie Wise; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Monroeville Christian Church, 3780 Northern Pike, Monroeville, PA 15146. Arrangements entrusted to the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 118 Shaw Avenue, Turtle Creek.
