Memorial Services for Coy Nutt, 75, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:30am on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home with Chaplin John Wayland officiating. Mr. Nutt passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024. He was born on September 8, 1949 in Nacogdoches.
Coy Nutt was a man of honor, integrity and good ole East Texas simplicity. He was a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure and was a great example to each of them. His way of life was exactly what he always strived for and his family, along with the wonderful friends he had, will certainly miss the happiness he brought to their lives.
Coy was born on September 8, 1949 to parents, Coy and LouVene Nutt who preceded him in death. He was taught from an early age that being nice and helping folks made you a better person. Coy lived this every day of his life. In the later months of 1970, by chance alone, he met Ann at Kokomo Drive Inn while in the car of her best friend, Donna Messina Barnard. She stole his heart that day in Shreveport, and a short 7 months later, he made her his wife. They officially began their love story on July 18, 1971 and then added their two children, Erik and Ashley. Coy worked at the family gas station on North Street for many years until his dad passed away and Coy then took over. He also spent many years as an Allstate insurance agent but his most important job was making sure Ann and the children were taken care of. Their lives were filled with many notable adventures but Coy was just as happy at home, enjoying Ann's cooking or his favorite hamburger from Butcher Boy's. Their love story sadly ended after almost 50 years when Coy had to endure the loss of his precious Ann.
Coy's life was filled with an abundance of joy and happiness but the simple ones were the best.Dr. Pepper and peanut butter crackers, Butterfingers, napping with his grandchildren or simply sitting on the porch swing enjoying the beauty that only God could create. His love of traveling led to the many collective memories that also included his dear friends. If you asked him, he had a better group of friends than anyone deserves. Donna & James Barnard, Cathy & Billy Huddleston, Jan & Mike Halls, Sue & Ricky Jamison and Sandy & Phillip Trew, just to name a few, have spent many hours together with Coy and his family and those days were unparalleled. To say he led an abundant existence would be putting it mildly and those closest to him will always know his heart was full because he knew he was blessed to love and be loved.
Coy is survived by his children, Ashley Nutt and Erik Nutt & wife, Ruth; grandchildren, Kaleigh Sturgis and Corbin Sturgis; step-grandchildren, Jasper Smith, Haylie Smith and Kaitlyn Pilcik; sister-in-law, Susan Blue & husband, Jack; brother-in-law, Terry Bryant & wife, Deanne and numerous nieces and nephews as well as Donna & James Barnard.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Nutt; sisters, Linda Brewer & husband, Frank and Diann Pitman.
