Crystal Long Fountain, 91, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on January 30, 2025, at the Atrium at Floyd. Born on February 4, 1933, in the Hinton Community of Pickens County, Georgia, Crystal touched the lives of many with her generosity and warmth.
She dedicated her career to retail, beginning with Ernest Department Store and Calhoun Drug Company, where she worked diligently for 32 years, followed by 12 years at The Tot Roost. Crystal exemplified hard work and commitment, earning her colleagues and customers' respect and admiration. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In her personal life, Crystal cherished her friends, frequently enjoying spirited Rook games that brought joy and laughter to her gatherings. Springtime was her favorite season, and she passionately loved cooking and baking — primarily known for her delightful biscuits and chocolate gravy. Her interest in traveling to new locations, particularly beach destinations, and her love for interior design showcased her vibrant spirit. Crystal took great pleasure in her yard, diligently planting flowers and nurturing her outdoor sanctuary.
Crystal is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She epitomized the true Southern lady, creating a beautiful life filled with family and love. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Lipton, and her husband, Joel; grandchildren, Nikki and Brannon Fain, Blake McConnell, and Jonathan De Le Paz, Ashley Lipton, Johnny Anderson, and Alex Anderson; Great grandchildren: Madeline Murray, Jackson Murray, and Reilly Fain; and her brother, Charlie (Barbara) Long, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harvie W. Long; mother, Anna Carver Long; husband, Lloyd Fountain; daughter, Judy Roxanne Fountain; sisters, Elsie Fountain and Tamer Mullinax; and brothers, Talmadge "Butch" Long, Billy Long, and Herman Long.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 1170 Rome Rd SW, Calhoun, GA 30701. A Celebration of Life will follow on February 2, 2025, beginning at 1:30 PM, also at Trinity Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Shriners Children's Hospitals in Crystal's memory at the link below the obituary announcement, or Trinity Baptist Church, 1170 Rome Road SW, Calhoun, Georgia 30701.
Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery beside her late husband, Lloyd Fountain. Pallbearers serving will include Blake McConnell, Joel Lipton, Brannon Fain, Jackson Murray, Matt Murray, Jonathan De La Paz, Cohen Garland, Charlie Long, Thomas Fountain, Garry Fountain, Larry Fountain, Chuck Poarch, and Jeff Rogers.
Crystal Long Fountain's legacy of kindness, love, and dedication to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
