Crystal Carmichael "Kaye" Sullivan

Crystal "Kaye" Carmichael Hauersperger Sullivan, 88, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the home of her daughter.

Born September 6, 1936, in Freetown, she was the daughter of the late Earl Carmichael and Thelma (Scott) Carmichael. She married Dale Hauersperger on June 9, 1956, in Jennings County; he preceded her in death on March 3, 1989. She married Robert Sullivan on July 8, 2006, in Hayden; he preceded her in death on April 17, 2012.

Kaye was a 1955 graduate of Freetown High School and retired from the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville and had previously worked for the Shirt Factory in Seymour. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayden. Kaye enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Mark (Pam) Hauersperger of North Vernon and Steve (Kori) Hauersperger of South Bend; daughters, Sheila (Dennis) Coquerille and Sharlot (Bill) Ertel, both of North Vernon; daughter-in-law, Carol (Herb) Harr of Indianapolis; sisters, Phyllis Chasteen of Seymour and Janey Bowman of Ooltewah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Melissa (Amber) Deck, Alana Thrine, Sarah (Derek) Hillen, Justin Hauersperger, Luke (Bethany) Coquerille, Ashley (Lucas) Newsom, Annie (Matt) Walker, Abbey (Zach) Hicks, Jon (Danielle Biggs) Hauersperger, Darcy (Ben) Suhre, Zach (Kayla) Hauersperger, Maddie Hauersperger, Andrew (Alyssa Stairs) Hauersperger, Taylor (Alex) Taylor, Daniel Hauersperger, Sam Hauersperger, twenty-four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Gary Hauersperger; brother, Larry Carmichael; sisters, Carole Fleetwood and Sharon Ison; and lifelong friend, Paul Farrell.

A graveside committal service will be at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hayden. The visitation with family and friends will be on Saturday at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made in honor of Kaye through the funeral home to St. Vincent DePaul.
