Curtis Cowell Obituary

Curtis Mason Cowell, a resident of Prescott, Arizona since 1994 died on September 28, 2025, in Prescott. He was born in Texas, in 1930 and raised in the Pacific Northwest.

Curtis attended high school in Astoria, Oregon, lettered in football and track, and served as a reporter for the high school newspaper. He held degrees in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University, and in Business Administration from the University of Washington. He served as an Air Force officer during the Korean War. Curt married his wonderful wife Patricia Bunch in Seattle in 1956.

Curt worked in the concrete products industry, designing, building, and operating concrete products facilities in three states, retiring as Director of Manufacturing and Engineering for a company in Michigan. He served as president of the Oregon Concrete Products Association, and on industry national standardization bodies. A patent holder, ham radio operator, and private pilot, he was also a former Little League Baseball sponsor and manager. He was a scoutmaster and led his troop on 50-mile hikes along the Pacific Crest Trail. He was also an enthusiastic sport fisherman, for salmon in Alaska and on the Pacific Coast, and for trout in the Western States.

Curt and Pat retired to Prescott, in 1994. They both loved hiking in the mountains and canyons of the west and often lead local and annual outing hikes for the Pine Lakes Hikers. He and Pat traveled extensively, in Mexico, Europe and Asia, and around the States in their small airplane.

Close family relatives began writing their family histories, and Curt decided to write his as well. He traced the family travels, as his father pursued engineering work during the great depression, from Texas, through California, Montana, Washington, and Oregon. Curt attended twenty-four schools altogether until he left home for college, He wrote further of his own life, through his Air Force service, marriage and career. He included summaries of the lives of our family members.

Curt is survived by his son John, three grandsons Ryan, Ben and Kevin, and a sister Janet Hendrixsen. He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, sons David and Mathew and brothers Don and Roger Cowell.

At his request, no public services will be held. The family wants to thank all our many friends for their concern and support.
