Cynthia V. Edwards, lovingly known to many as "Mum," passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, NY. Born in Guys Hill, Jamaica, W.I., on March 25, 1946, Cynthia's journey through life was marked by her thoughtful nature, and a sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew her. At the age of 79, she left this world, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Cynthia's early life in Jamaica provided a strong foundation of family and community values that she carried with her throughout her life. Her move to New York was a bold step that demonstrated her adventurous spirit and determination for a better life for her and her son. In New York, Cynthia found meaningful work at Robert Simmons Art supply and then St. Vincent Hospital where she dedicated many years to the housekeeping department. She completed at least 20 years at each employment which reflects her commitment to her work. Cynthia's heart was always in the right place and was willing to help in any way that she could for those she cared for, and she was a source of unwavering support and wisdom for her loved ones. She is survived by her son, Steve V. DeRizzio; daughter-in-law, Liz; and her adored grandchildren, Brittney, Lauren, and Jenelle. Her legacy continues to flourish through her great-grandchildren, Jayden, Gerald, and Jaxon. Cynthia also leaves behind her brother, Perry, sister-in-law, Gloria, and a close-knit circle of nieces and nephews, including Elvis, Cleve, Everton, Paul and Patricia. Cynthia's education concluded with her high school diploma. Mum was always ready to lend a helping hand. Cynthia loved good food, whether it was a traditional Jamaican dish she had grown up with or a new culinary discovery in her adopted home of New York. Cynthia's life was a tapestry of the roles she cherished most: a nurturing mother, a beloved sister, and a loyal friend. and her presence was comforting constant in the lives of her family and friends. The words that best describe Mum-thoughtful and caring only scratch the surface of the profound impact she had on those around her. As we bid farewell to Cynthia V. Edwards, we celebrate a life lived with intention and joy. Her spirit, characterized by her love for her family, her commitment to her work, and her passion for the simple joys in life, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Cynthia's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories passed down through generations and in the countless lives she touched with her kindness. Cynthia's life was a beautiful example of how to love, laugh, and live fully. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. As the sun sets on her time with us, we take comfort in knowing that Cynthia's legacy will shine on, a guiding light of love and laughter for years to come.
