Cynthia Ann (Tlucek) Goerig, aged 86, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2024. She was born on June 8, 1938, in Hallettsville, Texas to Henry F. and Anne E. Tlucek. Cynthia obtained a music degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
On November 25, 1965 Cynthia married Bill on Thanksgiving day and they started a family in El Campo, Tx. Throughout those years Cynthia taught music to hundreds of students, played countless weddings, funerals and holiday concerts and was known for her no nonsense approach to teaching the piano. That same no nonsense attitude could be found in her kitchen as she could cook anything and everything often at double the quantity needed for the group. Many of those meals were eaten well past dark as she made sure no long day in the field farming ended on an empty stomach.
Cynthia was co-director of the adult choir and was selected to participate as one of the musicians for the Diocese of Victoria when Pope John Paul II visited in 1987.While working as the music teacher at St. Philip's School, she began collaborating with Father Jo Kobel to improve the flow of the liturgy during the various church seasons. She developed and implemented orders of service for the liturgy, primarily for Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. To further enhance her knowledge and deepen her understanding of the liturgy, she earned a master's degree in Liturgy and Scripture from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota in 1995. The changes she made to the liturgy are still widely used within the church today.
Cynthia's passion for music was contagious and enjoyed by all of those fortunate enough to hear her play. She loved every holiday. Christmas was her favorite and her fondest memories were of decorating her home, playing piano and singing with family. Cynthia's perfect evening would include the entire family enjoying a home cooked meal, George Strait playing on the radio and, if the weather cooperated, a roaring fire in the fireplace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry F. and Anne E. Tlucek; her sister, Hyancinthe Tlucek; and her brother, Tim Tlucek. Cynthia is survived by her husband of 58 years, William "Bill" Goerig; four children; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild:
Son Chris (Jackie) Goerig of Midlothian, their children David (Grace), Will (Leah), Julia, and Olivia
(Noah);
Son Greg (Brittany) Goerig of Midlothian, their children Kaylee (Caleb), grandchild Carter, Landen
(Macey), and Maycee;
Son Jeff (Becky) Goerig of Van Buren, AR, their children Sophie and Brady;
Daughter Amanda (Mark) of Klein, TX, their children Lorelei and Carsten.
She is also survived by her sister, Melicent Bryarly of Frisco, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cynthia's family would like to thank the caregivers from Angels Healthcare, as well as Lillian Green, for their assistance.
