Cynthia R. Johnson was born on August 14, 1946, in Wilmington, Delaware to Preston E. Johnson and Rosa O. Johnson. Cynthia passed away on April 3, 2025, in Wilmington, Delaware after a prolonged illness.
She received her early education from Wilmington public schools, graduating from Pierre S. DuPont High School in 1969. Cynthia then worked at the University of Delaware for many years before concluding her career at Bancroft Elementary School after more than 18 years of service.
Her favorite hobbies included playing cards, bingo, and traveling. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Rosa Johnson, as well as her brothers, Rodney H. Johnson, Preston S. Johnson, and Reginald C. Johnson, all of Wilmington.
She is survived by her sister, Lisa Johnson Smith of Townsend, Delaware. Cynthia is mourned by her two sons, Derrick C. Johnson (Shanda) of Wilmington, DE, and Damon G. Johnson (Karyn) of Newark, DE. She was a grandmother to Dayanna, Derrick Jr., Paige, Damon Jr., and Tyree, all of Wilmington, DE, and a great-grandmother to Kairo and Kha'leeyah of Wilmington, DE.
