Cynthia "Cindy" McKean, age 72, of West Brownsville, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025.
Born to the late Mildred "Millie" and Peter McKean, Cindy was a cherished sister, aunt, and friend. She was lovingly known as "Aunt Dee Dee" to Chrissy (Steven) Ziccardi, Erin (Rich) Vitale, Melissa McKean, Jeremy McKean, Kevin McKean, and Tiffany McKean, and the beloved great-aunt to Melina, Nikolas, and Ethan. She will also be remembered with gratitude and affection by her sister-in-law, Patty McKean, who stepped in with care and love during Cindy's later years. Cindy was preceded in death by her two brothers, George and Timmy McKean.
Cindy was a fiercely independent and feisty woman, admired for her bold spirit and uncompromising honesty. She never sugarcoated her words and always spoke with confidence, advocating strongly for women's rights and living by her belief that life was black and white, there was no room for gray areas.
Her greatest pride and joy were her nieces and nephews, who truly were the center of her world. After the passing of her brothers, Cindy said, "My purpose on this earth is to take care of my brothers' children," and she fulfilled that promise wholeheartedly. She showered them with love, guidance, and endless memories.
Cindy brought humor and toughness to every interaction. Armed with her cane, sometimes even her "special" cane, she made sure everyone knew she wasn't afraid to use it if needed. She was highly educated, earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry and her Master's in Earth Science from California University of Pennsylvania.
A passionate Whitney Houston fan, Cindy was convinced she could sing like her idol, much to her family's amusement. Known for her stubborn streak, she refused to wear her hearing aids, insisting instead that everyone else just "speak more clearly."
Family gatherings were treasured by Cindy. Holidays were celebrated with love and tradition, and she took pride in keeping Old World customs alive-even sending her nephew on adventures to track down special kielbasa. Cindy also had a lifelong love of dogs, often attempting to "adopt" her nieces' and nephews' pets whenever she had the chance.
Cindy will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her sharp wit, unwavering love, and unforgettable presence made every moment spent with her a cherished memory.
