In Loving Memory of Chris David McKean
December 20, 1950 – June 14, 2025
On June 14, 2025, Chris David McKean left this earth and rose joyfully to Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Chris was born on December 20, 1950, in Iola, Kansas, to Morris and Arlene McKean (both deceased). He was always proud to say he came from the county seat of Kansas. A lifelong learner, Chris graduated from Kansas State College in 1972 and earned his Master's degree from the University of Arkansas in 1977.
His professional life took him across the technology and engineering industries, working for notable companies such as Celanese Corporation, Digital Equipment, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Carotek, and Logicalis. He retired in 2018 and settled in Keowee Key, Salem, South Carolina.
Chris embraced retirement fully, becoming an active member of the Keowee Key community. He especially enjoyed participating in the men's golf league and proudly celebrated a hole-in-one on October 16, 2020. He had a deep interest in home automation and solar energy technology and was always eager to learn and share his knowledge.
Faith played a central role in Chris's life. He was a dedicated member of Crossgate Church in Seneca, SC, where he served as a ruling Elder and coordinated the church's prayer chain. Chris was deeply respected and genuinely loved by all who knew him, remembered for his warmth, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his faith and family.
Above all, Chris's greatest joy was his family, whom he cherished deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy, and his sons, James McKean (Karen) and Robert McKean (Kathy). He also leaves behind his sister, Paula DePriest (Larry); niece Larissa Fricks (Cameron); nephew Jeff Fugate (Leisa); granddaughters Megan Phillips (Cody), Morgan Walton (Justin), Sarah McKean (Hauser); grandson Christopher McKean (Mandy); and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Fugate.
Chris lived a life filled with purpose, kindness, and a quiet strength. His legacy of love, faith, and compassion lives on in all who had the blessing of knowing him.
A Celebration of Chris's Life Service will be held at Crossgate Church in Seneca, SC on July 18 at 11:30am followed by a reception at Keowee Key at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Cancer Association, you can do so online at action.lung.org, or by mail, 1964 Ashley River Road, Suite B #80338, Charleston, SC 29416.
