Cynthia Marie Scott

Cynthia Marie Scott, 63, community activist and volunteer; devoted mother, daughter, spouse, aunt, and grandma; of Logan Square and Lathrop Homes, passed away surrounded by family August 9, 2024.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Cindy attended Senn and Clemente High Schools in Chicago.
Cindy was a dedicated volunteer, serving as parent mentor and volunteer at Schneider School, Elder and Secretary of the Church of the Good News, and Secretary and Treasurer of Lathrop Advisory Council. She was a community activist with Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA). Cindy worked late hours to preserve affordable housing for Lathrop and Logan Square and left a lasting impact on her community.
She loved jigsaw and seek-and-find puzzles, reading works of mystery and suspense and watching PBS/British television.
Beloved companion of 31 years to Joseph Craig Burrell, devoted mother of Venus Scott, Lillyana (fiancée Timothy Pitts) Sanchez, and twins Jasen and Justin Scott. Proud grandmother of Jeremiah, Kaitlyn, Anthony, Lakayla, Sophia, and Aiden. Dear sister of Arthur (Vanessa) III, Jay, and Leigh (John) Herrick. Fond aunt of Arthur (Lucy) IV, Jessica, and Michelle (Andres) Rodriguez, and a handful of great-nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents Barbara Ann Herrick (nee McGrath) and Arthur Loring Herrick II.
Visitation Thursday, August 22, 10am (service begins 11am) at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 3309 N. Seminary Ave., Chicago, IL 60657. Private burial to follow.
