AKWESASNE – David Bruce Phillips, 65, peacefully started his journey back to the Spirit World on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Tsiionkwanonhso:te on Cornwall Island with the love of his family at his side.
Bruce was born on May 12, 1960, the son of the late Abraham and Susan (Hemlock) Phillips. He attended school in St. Regis before graduating from General Vanier in Cornwall. Bruce was a self-employed carpenter and also worked for a time with Mohawk Council. Bruce's specialty was cabinet making and also was a skilled artist. He also had a love for fishing and enjoyed watching car races at Frogtown.
Bruce is survived by his sisters, Sandra Phillips, Shirley Phillips, and Elizabeth Benedict; his brother, Vaughn (Lynelle) Phillips; his sister-in-laws, Florence and Irene Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Terry (Mary Lou) Phillips, Leslie Phillips, and Allen Phillips.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may call Wednesday 4-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 1:00 PM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Cremation will follow.
