It is with great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude that we announce the passing of Dagmar Gabriela Abel, a kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was 97 years old. Dagmar was born on April 8, 1926 to Gabriela and Jan Krasny in Trnava, Slovak Republic (former Czechoslovakia). She was the beloved sister of Edita, Fred, and Gertruda.
Dagmar married Rudolf on February 8, 1948 and gave birth to twin boys, Ivan and Peter later that year. In 1966, the family fled before the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia and temporarily settled in Austria before setting roots in New York. In the US, Dagmar had a successful career as the comptroller at Silver Star Motors. She was highly regarded by her colleagues and celebrated throughout her tenure. When she retired in 1993, she moved to Mountaindale, New York to enjoy the tranquility of rural living.
Dagmar was a passionate woman with an adventurous and artistic spirit. She would spend much of her free time enjoying outdoor activities such as skiing, ice skating, biking, and foraging for mushrooms and berries. A dedicated globetrotter, Dagmar would always share treasures and stories from her travels around the world. She was also an avid painter, with much of her art inspired by the beauty of nature.
Above all, Dagmar was dedicated to those she cherished; her family and friends. She expressed her love in the kitchen, preparing elaborate and delicious meals as she was happiest when sharing a meal with loved ones… full bellies and full hearts.
Dagmar is survived by her two sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
