In July 1954, he entered to United States Army and served his country in Germany in the Infantry Division as a mortar gunner until his honorable discharge in 1957. He was listed as an expert marksman with an M1 rifle as he claimed not to be very good with a pistol.
On October 4, 1958, he was united in marriage to Loretta "Tina" Brushaber in Medford. They lived in Spencer for 48 years before moving to Marshfield in 2017.
Hobbies he enjoyed include socializing and shooting the breeze; fishing and hunting when younger and watching old western movies.
