Sherrie Lynn Anderson-Framness, 75, a Marshfield resident, passed Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from this world peacefully into Jesus' presence at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI, with her family at her side.
Born April 20, 1950, in Oconto Falls, Sherrie was the daughter of Ralph and Cora (Witzke) Anderson. She married Douglas Iver Framness on May 25, 1974, at Bethel Lutheran Church near Cecil.
Sherrie is survived by Doug, her husband of 51 years; children Lars (Wausau), Siri (Lincoln) Wilmoth (Bozeman, MT), and Chris (Marshfield); grandchildren Cora, Weldon, Theodore, and Everett; her brother Gary Anderson (Cecil); and sister-in-law Ellen Framness (Whitelaw). She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roger (1979), and brother-in-law Rupert Jr. (2020).
As the first-born child of a farming family, Sherrie was resourceful, creative, and industrious. Her first knitting project in the Shaw-Oco 4H Club wasn't a scarf, but an entire coat! And Sherrie used her sewing and knitting skills to bless others, sending heirloom dresses and outfits to her grandchildren and other beloved children, as well as wedding quilts overseas to cherished foreign exchange students. We, kids, always heard about the stylish, plaid, bell-bottom pants and orange, flowery tie that she sewed for our dad when they were first married. He even wore them in public.
After having only a year or two of piano lessons with Mrs. O'Brien of Gillett, at the age of 14 Sherrie became the new organist of Bethel Lutheran, a post that she shared with another 14-year-old, Ellen Horsens. Organists were hard to find even back then.
Sherrie had a strong, independent spirit, believing that where there's a will, there's a way. She insisted to her farming parents that she wanted to attend the Luther League Convention of 1967 in Dallas, TX, only a few years after the Kennedy assassination, and raised her own funds along with help from her Mom and Dad.
Graduating from Gillett High School in 1968, Sherrie was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship. She went on to study and receive her Bachelor's of Music Education degree from UW Stevens Point in 1972. As a freshman in college at UWSP, she toured Europe with her college choir, making stops in the United Kingdom, France and both East and West Germany.
In the fall of 1971, Sherrie met the love of her life Douglas Framness in a folk dancing class at UWSP. Their courtship spanned two-and-a-half years, and it was clear that she would be a great life partner when she even assisted with the collection of roadside wildlife specimens (think roadkill!) for impending deadlines in a mammalogy class for Doug.
Sherrie taught music in Wisconsin Rapids from 1972-1974. In the spring of 1974, Doug and Sherrie were wed at Bethel Lutheran. After their wedding, Doug and Sherrie moved to Davenport, IA, pulling everything they owned in a 24-ft. U-Haul truck. While Doug attended Palmer Chiropractic College, Sherrie opted to forgo further adventures in middle-school music education in lieu of being a store clerk at Younkers. She also taught private piano lessons in Davenport and did accounting for a local law firm.
In the fall of 1978, Doug and Sherrie moved to central Wisconsin, landing first in Spencer and then later in Marshfield. Sherrie showed again her tremendous work ethic and creative energy, caring for and raising their three children and assisting her husband as an efficient office manager at Framness Chiropractic Office. When asked later in life how she had time to sew such a large quantity of beautiful dresses, Norwegian bunads, and quilts, she replied, "I didn't clean the house." Sherrie always made time for the things and people she loved.
Music always brought Sherrie so much joy. She assisted Mrs. Meunier in coaching high school musicians at Gillett; she accompanied children's 4H groups, Sunday school choirs, summer choral workshops, hundreds of high school musicians at solo & ensemble students over decades, and many years of Marshfield High School musical rehearsals. Sherrie and Doug were long-time members of Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield, where Sherrie organized and led contemporary worship services for many years. Choir rehearsals at Faith Lutheran Church had all members, accompanist included (Mom), laughing until they cried. Special friendships were made.
Sherrie was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and our dad often teased her that he was more Norwegian than she was. Sherrie and Doug were avid participants in their local Sons of Norway Lodge and made several trips to Norway to visit distant cousins and old home-places. And Sherrie was an avid genealogist, and we children remember helping with crayon-rubbings of headstones and time spent in genealogical reference libraries.
Sherrie was a woman of deep, abiding faith. What heavenly music she must be making now, around the throne of our loving heavenly Father. Our family wishes to extend a most heartfelt thank you to Cassie of Compassus Hospice for her loving care for Sherrie and our whole family.
