Dallin R. Roberts, age 93, died on July 18, 2025 of causes related to old age. He was born on January 19, 1932, to Herbert Franklin Roberts and Rosa Davis Roberts in Annabella, Utah. Dallin married Grace Alice Heath on September 28, 1981. They enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before Grace died on August 6, 2021. Dallin had two children by marriage to Grace, Suzanne Marie Hottmann and David Clark Hottmann. Dallin also raised one son, Michael Nelson Roberts, from his first marriage.
Dallin is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Grace. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and all of his sisters and brothers. Siblings included Cleone (Kenneth) Holley, H. Clive (Shirley) Roberts, Ruth (Stanford) Parsons, Alden (Clarice) Roberts, Linden J. (Leva) Roberts, Rea Roberts, and Lois (Daniel) Christensen. Dallin is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Dallin started milking cows when he was kindergarten age. He helped his dad on the farm until 1945 when his dad died. Dallin attended South Sevier High School where he lettered in basketball and baseball. He attended Snow College for one year before he joined the United States Air Force on September 28, 1951. Dallin served as an MP on a base in Seoul Korea and at McCord Field in Tacoma, Washington. While Dallin was serving in Seoul Korea, his name was among four service members' names which were read over a North Korean propaganda radio station, stating they would be swinging from the Han River Bridge. Dallin was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on September 27, 1955.
Dallin made a career in cutting meat for retail and meat packaging plants. He ran many meat markets for Safeway in Utah and California. He retired from Wasatch Meats in 2011, at the age of 80.
After retirement, Dallin spent time with his wife and daughter working around the yard. His farming instinct continued into the last months of his life. His last really good day before his health started to decline rapidly was spent working with his daughter in her yard. Dallin was also an avid reader. At times, he was reading three different books, depending on where he was sitting.
Dallin felt he didn't deserve military honors. He said he didn't serve on the front lines. However, he did serve in protecting an Air Force base, so the front-line military service members had somewhere safe to return to while they were overseas. He also served protecting McCord Field in Tacoma, Washington. Our Korean War veterans, like our Vietnam veterans were not necessarily treated well on their return to the United States. We can't change the past. However, we can honor them now. Dallin will have military honors. If you are or were a member of the United States military, you are welcome to wear your uniform or a cap indicating your branch of service and your desire to honor Dallin and all of our military service members, past and present. Please, no stolen valor. Otherwise, dress for Dallin's viewing and graveside service will be whatever you would like to wear. Casual is fine.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 3688 West 12600 South,
Riverton, UT, on July 25, 2025 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Herriman Cemetery, 12465 Pioneer Street, Herriman, UT, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
