Daniels Family Funeral Services - Southern ChapelIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Damon, beloved son, brother, friend, and boyfriend. He left us on August 3rd, 2025, at the age of 23.
He leaves behind his broken-hearted parents; Alex and Andrea Mendez, four siblings who loved him very much; Elijah, Isaac, Alexander, and Olive, his loving girlfriend, Ameya, and his beloved cat, Batman. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Damon had so many nicknames; Peanut, Shorty pants, Daye, Stitch, Daye Daye, Sugar Bear, Might Mouse, and Bruce Glee. No matter what name he was known by, he was always smiling and making others smile. He was the first to offer help, the first to offer to pay, and he would always make time to help anyone in need. He could make anyone's day better. He never wanted anyone to worry about him or cause any burden to anyone. He worked as a caregiver to the elderly and disabled and he had many residents who loved him. Damon was such a hard worker and he had unparalleled work ethics.
He always wanted to be the fastest. He couldn't wait to grow up and leave home. He wanted to be the fastest football player, the fastest runner, the fastest driver, and the fastest on a bike. He had to overcome so many struggles and we were enjoying watching him grow into a strong, kind, selfless young man. We are so proud of him. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 2021 against all odds. He was studying to be an automotive mechanic. He was getting ready to move to Durango with his girlfriend, Ameya, in a few weeks. Unfortunately, his life was tragically cut short by his love of speed. The only peace we find in the loss of our son is that he left us doing what he loved.
While we don't know Gods' plan or understand the reasons why terrible things happen, we have to trust that God knows best and that Damon is now safe and happy with no pain, no worry, and no stress.
We will see you again.
To all the motorcycle riders: Please ride safely and responsibly!
To everyone else: Please lookout for motorcycles! We all need to share the road to make it safe for our youngsters to ride and enjoy the same freedom Damon felt when he was on his bike without families suffering unnecessary loss.
