Dan Ellis age 92 of Sweeny, TX went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday November 25th, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Dan was born in Streetman TX to the late W.C and Annette Ellis. He was the youngest of 3 boys.
Dan graduated from Sweeny high school in 1953. While there he played baseball and was on the basketball team that went to state in 1952 but lost. Following graduation, Dan joined the army and proudly served 2 years and 16 months in Korea. He received his honorable discharge in 1955.
While attending Wharton Jr college in 1959, he met the love of his life Margaret (Peggy) Tillman, and they were married in 1961. Together they had two daughters Danette and Kim.
Dan worked at Ada oil company for 12 years and then went on to retire from Amoco production co after 20 years.
Dan was a devout Christian and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Sweeny for many years where he served on several committees and was an usher and greeter throughout many of those years.
Dan was a member of the Old Ocean Lodge 1284 A.F. & A.M. for 66 years and received his master’s degree in 1958. He became a member of the 32nd Scottish Rite in Galveston on January 27, 1966. He also received the Masonic Golden Trowel Award.
Dan served on the Sweeny Little league board. He enjoyed baseball and umpired every chance he got. He was proud to reside in Sweeny and served on the Sweeny city council for 22 years. Most of all Dan was the proudest of his two grandchildren Austin Boyd and Shelby Miller. Throughout their high school days Pop never missed a baseball or softball game and traveled all over to be one of their biggest fans.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings John Ellis and Ernie Ellis.
Dan survives his loving wife of 64 years Peggy Ellis, daughter Danette Boyd, daughter and son in law Kim and Marvin Graham, grandson Austin Boyd, and granddaughter Shelby Miller.
Relatives, Friends and Members of Old Ocean Masonic Lodge 1284 are invited to his viewing on Tuesday December 2nd from 10-11 a.m. at First Methodist Church of Sweeny. His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
