Dan Herman Warmbrod - Resident of Winchester, TN, Born July 23, 1931 in Belvidere, TN
Died April 12, 2024, Winchester, TN at age 92
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Kerman, Sara Key; nephew/nieces, Mark Kerman, Kay
Kerman (Nick Back), Jill Key Whaley (Wayne); Great nephews/nieces, Sean (Emily), Alexis,
Emily, Elliott, Grace, Jenna, Hannah, Paul; Great, great nephew/niece, Hendrix, Harlow, and
dear friends, Pat Duncan and Lizzie.
Dan was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Grace Zimmerman Warmbrod, nephew Jack
Key, niece Deirdre Kerman, and brothers-in-law Bill Kerman and Walter Key.
He attended Belvidere Public School and graduated from Central High School in Winchester,
TN. After high school, he attended Middle Tennessee State University where he majored in
Biology with minors in Education and Music. He then received a Masters degree in Biology with
a minor in Education from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. After graduation, he spent
several years in the Army as an instructor at the Army Medical Service School at Fort Sam
Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
After serving in the military, Dan entered the teaching field, first teaching at Franklin County High
School in Winchester, then at MTSU in Murfreesboro, and at the University of Memphis in
Memphis, TN. He also worked for McGraw-Hill Book Company while teaching summer school at
Pepperdine College in California. In 1971, he returned to full time teaching at Northeast
Mississippi Community College in Booneville, MS. While in Mississippi, he completed an
advanced degree in Organ Performance at Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, MS. In
1991, he took early retirement from Northeast Community College and returned to the family
farm in Belvidere to look after the farm for his mother, while also teaching at Motlow State
Community College in Tullahoma, TN. In addition to his teaching, he served as the organist at
the First United Methodist Church in Winchester. More recently, he volunteered at the Southern
Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Dan was a member of the Tennessee Academy of Science, the Association of Southeastern
Biologists, the American Association of University Professors, the Franklin County Historical
Society, the Franklin County Resource Development Association, the First United Methodist
Church of Winchester and the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Cecelia and Gary Brodioi for the
incredible support Dan received from them during his final years. Thanks also to all the staff at
Franklin Manor and to Compassus for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Cemetery Fund of First United
Church, UCC at 4099 Owl Hollow Rd., Belvidere, TN 37306 or First United Methodist Church in
Winchester, TN.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, at First United Church of Belvidere at
1:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at the church from 11:00 AM
until 1:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow in First United Church of Belvidere Cemetery.
