Dana Smith

Dana Lamont Smith was born on Saturday, September 19, 1959, to Arlene Smith and the late Elijah Isaiah. On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Dana peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind cherished memories and a contagious sense of humor.
In his early years, Dana attended Herron Hill Middle School and graduated from Schenley High School in 1978. He was well known in the Hill District, where his impeccable sense of style and ability to coordinate his suits made him stand out. Throughout his life, Dana held various jobs, including positions at Wells Tails and several cooking side jobs, before retiring from Shuman Juvenile Detention Center in October 2019.
Dana was a devoted member of Deliverance Baptized Church in Wilkinsburg, PA, where he was baptized. He will be remembered for his quick wit, quirky advice, and deep love for those around him.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Arlene Smith, with whom he shared a close bond and spent much of his time. Dana also leaves behind his three children: William Smith (Bud), Danielle Smith (Boo-Boo), and Jacobi Friday of Maryland; his treasured granddaughter, Isabella Smith, whom he was overjoyed to welcome into the world; his brother, Ezell Smith; and his sister-in-law, Pamela Brown. He was preceded in death by his brother, Delbert Turner, and his sister, Cheryl.
Dana also cherished two lifelong friends, Tyrone Allen and Gregory Nevels, whom he considered brothers. Additionally, he leaves behind several sisters-Tracey, Kim, and Lisa-as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones who will carry on his memory. Dana's presence, humor, and the impact he had on those around him will be deeply missed.
