Daniel James Bohan, age 75, of Peoria, passed away at 12:26 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Dan was born September 29, 1949 in Peoria, to William and Dorothy (Seeds) Bohan. He lived in Peoria for his entire life (unless you count four years away at college). Like George Bailey who was always trying to get away from Bedford Falls, Dan spent many years figuring out a way to get away from Peoria. However, it must have been God's will for Dan to stay put. In the end, it turned out to the the best possible city in which to live. For, this is where he met the love of his life Carol, where his seven children were born, and where the Bohan family always came back together periodically for family reunions.
Dan went to Columbia and St. Bernard's Grade Schools and attended high school at Spalding Institute, graduating as Salutatorian in 1967. He attended the University of Illinois (U of I), graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1971. While at U of I, Dan served at Traffic Manager at WPGU, the student radio station, and he worked summers as a janitor at First Federal Savings in Peoria. Upon graduating from U of I. he went to work at McDonnell Douglas Automation Company as a computer programmer and later a systems programmer. At this time, Dan became active in Catholic Alumni Club, where he met his future wife, Carol. They married on January 17, 1976, honeymooning on the island of Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles. They were married for 49years.
Dan was an active member of St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Peoria, where he became a member in 1978.
In 1977, Dan got a job working in data processing for CAT, where he would continue to work for 36 years, always working with computers. For 28 years, Dan worked in an area that provided computer solutions for the CAT dealers. The rest of his time was in solutions for manufacturing.
He was active with the Boy Scouts of America. Initially, as a youth, he achieved the rank of Life Scout in Boy Scout Troop 5 at St. Bernard's. Then, he was an adult leader in Boy Scout Troop 18 at St. Philomena's, starting in 1989. Dan was a Scoutmaster there, from 1992 to 1998, a period that saw the troop produce 12 Eagle Scouts.
Dan's favorite hobby was reading. You would often find Dan reading a book, as he took the bus to and from work. Or you might have seen him reading as he walked down the street, coming from the bus stop.
Bohan family vacations have always been a special part of Dan's life. Among the most memorable were Disney World in 1995 and Ontario in 2014. He and his wife enjoyed taking many trips on their own, especially remembered was a trip centered on the San Antonio River Walk.
Throughout his life, Dan always tried to be helpful to others, where it was in the Boy Scouts, the St. Philomena Youth Group, or the raising of his seven children. Later in life he really enjoyed being around and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Carol of Peoria; seven children: Melanie (Jim) Owens of Canton, Chris (Cassie) Bohan of Peoria Heights, Lisa Long (Dale Allen) of Peoria, Steve (Krissy) of Peoria, Josh of Sparland, Kevin and Sarah Bohan both of Peoria; 11 grandchildren: Grace, Joshua and Lena Owens, Jonathon and William Long, Leo, Samuel, and Isabella Allen, Emelia and Bennett Bohan, Dorothy Pearl Bohan; one brother Tim (Elaine) Bohan of San Francisco; one nephew Louis Bohan and one niece Evelyn (Flynn) Jones.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Patrick Bohan.
Visitation will be held at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Friday, May 30, 2025 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Recitation of the rosary will take place at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church with an additional visitation starting at 9:30 AM. Father Daniel Dionesotes will officiate, and entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Preferred memorials in Dan's memory may be made to Central Illinois Right to Life or St. Philomena Catholic Church.

I worked with Dan for many years in the Cat Dealer Systems department. I'll always be grateful for his patience in answering my technical questions. I last saw him (with Carol) at my retirement party on August 2006. Dan was one of the good guys. May he rest in peace.

My prayers to all of you, my cousin Dan and Carol came to visit us in Yuma AZ. And was always so much fun to talk with. He was also a very talented photographer who took some of my favorite family pictures. I love reading his Christmas letters and catching us up with the family. Rest in Peace and give Aunt Dot and my Mom a big hug. until we meet again.
