David James Skender, age 84, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025 in Peoria, IL.

Dave was born in Peoria, IL, on October 18, 1940 to John R. and Matilda "Tillie" (Grzanich) Skender. He married the love of his life, Mariann Snyder, on June 16, 1961, in Peoria. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years.

He is also survived by his children Kimberly (James) Waldon of Peoria and David (Kelly) Skender of Metamora and grandchildren Heather (Ryan) Powers of Morton, Andrew Rose of Peoria, Alec Skender of Phoenix, Ethan Skender (fiancé Madison Dusek) of West Peoria, Payton Skender (fiancé Joe Osicki) of Cleveland and Morgan (Braden) Rassi of Morton and great-grandchildren Liberty and Hope Powers and Bennett Rassi. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Brian) Medendorp of Peoria and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother Stanley and brother DCN John E. Skender.

Dave graduated, in 1958, from Spalding Institute where he was a star athlete. His employment included International Harvester in Canton, Keystone Steel and Wire, and Caterpillar for 30 years.. He also started his own plumbing business and enjoyed talking to his customers. He was of the Roman Catholic Faith.

David Skender was a kind and loving man who was devoted to his family and to prayer. He was a pillar of strength to those around him. He made the best of things, never complained and never gave up. "Big Dave" always had a smile on his face. And his smile will live on in the hearts and memories of his family and friends. He was truly a blessing all of the days of his life and will continue to be. He died peacefully in his sleep and his family is comforted knowing that he is safely in the arms of Jesus in Heaven now and they look forward to seeing him again.

There are no services planned at this time. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Dementia Society of America.
