Ellen was born June 6, 1958, in Detroit, the daughter of Anthony and Shirley (McDaniel) Marek. She graduated from Warren Cousino High School and Michigan State University. Ellen married Philip Skender in 1988 and celebrated 36 years of marriage.
Ellen dedicated 40 years of her life to the insurance industry, working as a Customer Service Representative, where she was known for her professionalism and commitment.
Ellen had a deep passion for photography, art, and gardening. Her love for beautiful flowers and vibrant gardens was evident in everything she nurtured and created. As a sports enthusiast, she was fiercely loyal to Detroit and Michigan State University teams, never hesitating to express her well-informed opinions on their performances.
Above all, Ellen adored her grandchildren, who brought immense joy and love into her life. Her family and friends will forever cherish the many moments she spent with them.
Ellen is survived by her beloved husband, Philip; loving daughter, Sara (Kenneth, Jr.) Marcoux; cherished grandchildren, Kenneth, III, Teagan and Brynlee; brother, Anthony (Carolyn) Marek. Sadly, Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Suzanne Marek.
In lieu of flowers, Ellen's family requests that a tree, shrub, or plant be placed somewhere in her memory. Whenever you witness a beautiful sunset or take a walk along the beach, think of Ellen and her vibrant spirit.
Fulfilling her final wish, Ellen's cremated remains will be scattered along some of her favorite places, including Sedona, Zion National Park, Maui, Marco Island, Banff, and the shores of Lake Michigan. Ellen was also a devoted "Leaf Peeper," and the fall colors always held a special place in her heart.
Ellen's memory will live on in the beauty of nature and the hearts of those who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 6, 12-5 pm, at the home of Ellen's daughter, Sara Marcoux, 34719 Rhonswood, Farmington Hills, 48335.
Memorial tributes are suggested to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
