Daniel Brunson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Princess Anne Chapel on Jan. 4, 2025.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Daniel L. Brunson, Jr. (affectionately known as "Danny," "D.B.," and "Dan"), 77, passed away peacefully in his home on December 31, 2024. He was born in Hampton South Carolina. He attended public school in Hampton SC and Brooklyn NY. He was one of the first to integrate Madison High School in NY, where he graduated from in 1965.
After short employment with the Map Company (which made him curious about the world) he joined the U.S. Navy and made it a career achieving the highest enlisted rank of Command Master Chief. He retired after 26 years of service and became a government contractor for the Navy with Eagle Systems.
In July 1971, he was united in holy matrimony to Malva (Ann) Brunson. This union was blessed with 2 children.
Danny had many talents. He loved working on cars, lawn mowers or anything he could tinker with and give him a challenge. He loved fishing and those who know him had heard a story or two. He had a profound love of music and had a collection of jazz, soul, R&B and more. He loved to play games, and one of his biggest joys was playing dominoes with family and friends-especially when winning. He was always willing to help family, friends and neighbors.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel L. Brunson, Sr. and Earnestine Brunson - SC, and brothers, Arnold Brunson - SC, and Elmo Rivers – NC.
Left to cherish his memory: wife, Ann Brunson-Virginia; Children: Jelani Brunson (son) Daughter in law Natasha Menier -Virginia, Aiesha Brunson (daughter)-Virginia. 3 Grandchildren: Marcus Conrad-Ohio, Ahjanay Brunson-Virginia, Destiny Menier-Virginia. Sister: Gloria Rivers Preston – Georgia. Nephew's: Telly Brunson-NY, Derrick Preston II-South Carolina, Dylan Reid - Georgia. Nieces: Porschia Rivers-Georgia, Tameka Brunson – South Carolina. A host of cousins and diverse mix of friends; as well as Special Friends: Johnny Smalls– Georgia and Edward "Hug" Huggins–South Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 12pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel. The service will begin at noon in the funeral home chapel, with a repass to follow. The family requests that donations may be made in Danny's memory to the American Legion https://www.legion.org/ or the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia at https://www.bgcseva.org/
